On Friday 19 November 2021 Regent’s International School Bangkok celebrated Loy Krathong, one of the most important and beautiful festivals of Thailand. The Loy Krathong Celebration this year was a fantastic success given the restrictions in place. The theme was ‘Water is Life’ and Houses competed against each other through a cross-curricular exhibition of work ranging from art to poetry to designing and building a Krathong to growing rice. Our students, teachers and staff came to school in their elegant traditional Thai costumes. Year groups in Primary and Secondary had the opportunity to make a Krathong (floating banana leaf basket) and had them on exhibits all around the campus. There were some Thai candy and toy booths as well as krathong-making activities. There was also Thai classical dance from the new teachers and performances from our Music Scholars. Here at Regent’s, it is important to teach our students about tradition and cultural heritage through activities such as this, for them to grow into culturally aware, responsible global citizens. A big thank you to our Thai Language and Culture Department for organising the making of the Krathongs and to everyone for showing great community spirit, being internationally minded and demonstrating an appreciation for Thai culture.
